GUNA YALA trip BY THREAD CARAVAN
Sailing and embroidery trip in Guna Yala with Thread Caravan, a company that hosts art workshops around the world in collaboration with local craftspeople.
I joined this trip in January 2025, and I couldn’t recommend it enough. It was my first time traveling with strangers, and it turned out to be fantastic. We sailed around the beautiful islands of Guna Yala (San Blas), meeting the Guna people and learning about their textiles, called “molas.”
Everything was very well planned and went smoothly—from the logistics to the organization of the daily agenda, which was flexible according to the group’s mood and the flow of each day. We were accompanied by a trip leader from Thread Caravan, a local host from the Guna Yala community, and by the boat captain, Stef, who is very well connected and immersed in the community.
This trip only happens once or twice a year. You can join the waitlist here.

i travel by boat
One of the oldest charter companies in San Blas (Guna Yala) with over 12 years of expertise in the territory, immersed with the local Guna people. This the project of Stef, born in Bolivia, who arrived by chance to Guna Yala in a backpacking trip in 2012 and never left. These islands are now her home and she is knows the are and the communities very well.
I met her in my trip with Thread Caravan and she is one of those inspiring people with an energy difficult to forget.
