Miguel Costa x OUTLIERS

MEET MIGUEL

Hi, I’m Miguel. I work in fashion, but I’m really on the business side of it. In 2016, I launched C.R.T.D, a Lisbon based label known for its thin cotton shirts. After COVID 19, I started my second business with my childhood friend Catarina, House of Curated, an online and physical shops in Lisbon that brings independent brands from around the globe to Europe. Most recently, I joined One and Another Swimwear, my newest entrepreneurial venture.

I was born in Lisbon in 1993 and studied hospitality management in Switzerland, where I started traveling more and meeting people from all over the world. Because of that background, I’ve developed a real love for hotels and I’m always noticing the little details that make a stay truly special. I consider myself an open minded, positive and passionate person, and I somehow make everything feel like a holiday even though I’m constantly working (I never travel without my computer!).

memorable trips

My favorite trip so far has been Kenya. I’m lucky enough to go there every year. I’m one of those travelers who likes to repeat trips. I believe the connections you make, and the more often you go, the more special a place becomes. I always say I have a little family everywhere I go. Ibiza, Kenya and Rio are my top three places that I keep returning to every year.

FAVOURITE HOTELS

Peponi — Lamu, Kenya

Mike’s Camp — Kiwayu, Kenya

Hotel Arpoador — Rio de Janeiro

Soho House — Barcelona

Quinta da Comporta — Portugal

Los Enamorados — Ibiza

Potato Head — Bali

Peponi

A small, family-owned hotel with a distinct Swahili and coastal aesthetic, Peponi is a true home away from home. Warm, laid-back, and effortlessly charming, it offers a rare sense of ease and comfort. The food is exceptional, and the hotel has become the natural meeting point for locals and visitors alike in Shela. I cant recommend it enough!

Mike’s Camp

The luxury of not being luxurious. Off grid, off script, and full of character, Mike’s Camp is the kind of place you go to disconnect and end up connecting with amazing people. Just wild beauty, good stories, a great place for you to slow down.

Hotel ARPOADOR

A city hotel with front row seats to the beach. Hotel Arpoador is easygoing and welcoming, a favourite with both locals and travellers. The food is consistently good, especially breakfast, and the rooms are well priced and comfortable without trying too hard. When in Rio, it’s the kind of place you find yourself at least once a day (I do!). The team makes it feel personal.

Soho House Barcelona

I love staying there. The hotel traps you inside its doors the whole time. It is a great meeting point, with good food and good drinks. I love the service and the pool area. Plus, Soho House hotels have the best beds in the world.

Quinta da Comporta

Comporta is now a must in everyone's summer, but as someone from Lisbon, it is a great weekend getaway. The hotel has a lot of facilities to keep you entertained. Rooms are spacious and always with a balcony. It is very pricey during the summer.

Los Enamorados

A laid-back spot in Portinatx with bohemian rooms, a beautiful sea view, and a restaurant serving Mediterranean classics. The concept store is worth a visit on its own, with a mix of fashion, design, and handmade pieces. Intimate, eclectic, and full of charm.

Potato Head

Probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at. Feels refined but still warm and personal. The rooms are beautiful, the restaurants are great, and the whole space is built with care. Their sustainability program is on another level, turning waste into everything from candles to furniture. It’s one of those hotels you don’t want to leave.

travel WISH LIST

ROME — Never been, and I love Italy. Hoping to finally make a quick trip this year.

INDIA — Very curious to experience it. The culture, the energy, and probably even something work related. I have always been fascinated by how you can manufacture just about anything there.

AUSTRALIA — I can’t choose just one city, I would love to see a bit of the whole country. The mix of nature, beach, and creative energy really draws me in. I am sure I will love it once I finally go. Also, the no shoes, always in swim shorts lifestyle really suits me.
