Honeymoon Two weeks around Spain

THE TRIP

Why Spain?

We chose to spend our honeymoon in our country because we realized that sometimes we don’t pay enough attention to what’s right around us.

We tend to think that the exotic and far-off is what's most captivating, but that's not always the case. There are amazing places nearby, culture, food, landscapes... and we wanted to make the most of that.

So we decided to spend the weeks after the wedding reconnecting with what’s close, slowing down and truly enjoying every moment.

Who planned it?

We planned it ourselves, we just knew the dates we had available and that we wanted a trip that had a bit of everything: coast, countryside, food, culture…

Itinerary

Mallorca — 2 nights

The trip started in Mallorca. After the wedding, we spent a few days at Es Racó d’Artà, we ate, drank, and relaxed.

Barcelona — 2 nights

We flew to Barcelona and picked up the car there. The idea was to make our way down to Cádiz, tracing a kind of diagonal across the peninsula.

In Barcelona, we stayed a couple of nights at Casa Bonay and ate at Baldomero, Fonda Pepa, and Els Pescadors. We visited the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, which felt like a quiet architectural pilgrimage.

We also loved visiting Vasto Gallery in Poblenou.

Olot — 1 night

We drove to Olot to spend one night at Les Cols Pavellons by RCR Arquitectes, five minimalist glass-and-steel cubes set among volcanic gardens.

We also had dinner at their two‑star Michelin restaurant, located in a restored 13th-century farmhouse next door.

During our stay, we took the chance to see more of RCR Arquitectes' work around Olot, like the beautiful Tossols Basil stadium hidden in the forest.

Cadaqués — 3 nights

Back in the car, we drove a couple of hours to Cadaqués, where some friends were waiting for us.

We stayed at Casa Nereta, ate at Compartir, and visited Dalí’s house in Portlligat. We spent three days enjoying the sea and the dolce far niente.

Begur — 2 nights

Next, we headed to Begur, with a stop on the way at Palau de Casavells by Alzueta Gallery.

We stayed a few days at La Bionda and had paella at Toc al Mar.

Matarraña (Aragón) — 1 night

With salt still on our skin, we started driving south.

A quick stop in Matarraña at Consolación, we played ping pong and spent the night in a cabin surrounded by trees.

Valencia — 1 night

Then we arrived in Valencia for a quick visit: lunch at La Pepica, dinner at La Salita, pastries at Mòlt, a stop at Canoa Lab, and the night at Yours Hotel.

Cuenca — 2 nights

From Valencia, we headed inland. This was the start of our cross-country stretch.

We arrived in Cuenca, spent the night an hour away at El Bálsamo in Belmonte, a little Manchego village where time stands still.

In Cuenca, we ate at Casas Colgadas and visited Museo de Arte Abstracto.

Cáceres — 1 night

Next stop: Cáceres.

We stayed at Casa Pizarro, but the real highlight here was Atrio. That dinner, we’ll never forget it.

We also visited Museo Helga de Alvear.

Vejer de la Frontera — 3 nights

The next day, we set off for Vejer. It was the longest drive of the trip, nearly four hours (the idea had been to keep all drives under two), but we didn’t want to miss the James Turrell installation at Fundación Montenmedio.

We had dinner at El Jardín del Califa and stayed 1 night at Casa Uva.

After that, we moved to Casa La Siesta to do absolutely nothing for a couple of days.

On the way to our final destination, we stopped in El Puerto de Santa María for lunch at Aponiente.

Badajoz — 2 nights

To end the trip, we spent two days at La Dehesa de Don Pedro, unwinding among the holm oaks of Badajoz.

Driving back to Madrid, we closed the trip with one last meal: Raíces in Talavera de la Reina.

Debrief

Favourite hotel of the trip Es Racó d’Artà in Mallorca

Epic hotel breakfast Maria Solivellas’s breakfast at Es Racó d’Artà

Most memorable meal or dish the Flan de papada at Atrio

A place you'd go back to Begur

An underrated place Cáceres has a special magic to it

A ritual Loud music always playing in the car

A person you’ll always remember We loved meeting Raquel and Pedro from Canoa Lab

Most ‘honeymooner’ thing you did We had champagne in every room we stayed as a welcome gift, but we are not the greatest champagne lovers and it ended up unopened in almost every hotel!

What made your honeymoon different than your past trips? The feeling that time for resting was infinite and the luxury of being able to eat at truly special places we wouldn’t normally go to

Wish you’d had time for If we were to plan it again, and had more time to spend, we might dedicate more days to staying at some of the hotels we enjoyed the most (Es Racó d’Artà, Casa Nereta, La Bionda, Les Cols, or Casa La Siesta…) so we could relax and unwind.

What did you learn about each other? We’ve realized that for us, one’s happiness is seeing the other person happy

Been & Beyond

Favourite past trips For us our trips to NYC will always be very special, but exploring Lanzarote together was really something else.

Travel Wish List Japan is always on our bucket list, but Copenhaguen will probably be our next destination.
