Lamu Island
GILLES’ HOUSE
Where we stayed in Lamu. The house is really amazing. Ideally located in Lamu Town, the owners have preserved the traditional Swahili architecture. The rooms are beautiful and big. But the best part of the house is the terrace, where we spent most of our time, with views over Lamu and the sea.
Mbogo, the guy who takes care of the house, is very nice and helpful and cooks delicious food.
I personally know Gilles and he is a very kind and generous man that has traveled almost the entire world.

Located in a remote island called Kiwayu, 2h by speed boat from Lamu. I didn’t get the chance to go when I was in Lamu but looks like one of those places you can’t forget.

LAMU HOUSE
Beautiful hotel that preserves the traditional Swahili architecture. The location is perfect, just in front of the sea, if you choose to stay in Lamu Town instead of Shela. In my opinion, Lamu Town is way more authentic. You can also go for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Lamu Town | Hotel and Apartments | from 150€/night
JUA HOUSE
Hidden in the streets of Shela. Beautiful and simple bed&breakfast. Rooms are nice, the common area on the top floor is wonderful. They also make their own bread and cakes everyday so when you come in it smells wonderful.
Shela | Bed&Breakfast | from 130€/night
MANDA BAY
Luxury lodge in a secluded location. We stopped there for a drink while we were doing a dhow trip around the archipelago. The place is wonderful and full of peace. The only pitty is that the Chinese are building a huge port not far from Manda Bay. From some parts of the hotel you even get to see it.
Manda Island | Hotel | from 300€/night/person
